The 404 608: Where we score in extra time (podcast)

YES. WE. DID. The 1-0 American victory over Algeria in the Group C World Cup game this morning caused us to start the podcast a little later than normal, but we’re back and feeling proud to be Americans–not even two disallowed goals can keep us from victory! On today’s episode of The 404 Podcast, Jeff gives you a first-take review of Microsoft’s Kinect motion control system, Google Voice is finally out of beta and available to the masses, and we’re still reminiscing about toys from the 90s, stuff like the TalkBoy , Duncan YOYOs , and K’Nex ! Google Voice is officially open to anyone that wants to sign up for the web-based communication service

The 404 567: Where we get caught playing with our toys (podcast)

(Credit: Juliana Heng ) Today’s episode of The 404 Podcast resurrects our love for action figures and other toys from the late 1980s and early 1990s. Jeff’s a little older than Wilson and me, but we can still bond over our mutual love for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles action figures and our mutual hatred for picking up all those foam Nerd darts . There’s also a lot to learn about each other based on our toys. For example, Wilson’s mom used to yell at him for unscrewing and tinkering with all his figures, which explains why he eventually grew up building his own computers. Unfortunately, we’re too old to play with children’s toys now so we’ve all graduated to big-boy toys, and it’s with great sadness that we have to announce the death of the floppy disk . After three decades of production, Sony announced Friday that it would end all floppy-disk sales before the end of March 2011.

(Credit: Flickr/DarthServo ) The IRS gods must have tuned in to yesterday’s episode and heard Jeff complaining about the tax system, because he woke up this morning to a very lofty charge from his bank to the tune of $600 owed to the state of New Jersey. We’re all doing our best to cheer him up, but it doesn’t help that the Devils lost game one of the Eastern Conference quarters to the Arkansas Fliers last night. On the other hand, if Natali Del Conte Thursdays on The 404 aren’t enough to cheer him up, all hope might be lost for our beloved Haterader .

The 404 Podcast 528: Where we leap back into…Y2K…10?

Thanks to Shaun and his twin daughters Chloe & Kira for today's 404 featured sticker pic! (Credit: Shaun Davis/The 404) Ten years after Y2K, the folks over at Sony still can’t seem to remember to set their clocks right. The major firmware bug that shut down (almost) everyone’s PlayStation 3s over the weekend turned out to a glitch in the ” clock functionality incorporated in the system ,” according to Patrick Seybold, Sony’s senior director of corporate communications and social media. Despite the company’s claims that the glitch has been fixed, we’re still harboring some serious doubts that Sony did anything to fix it and probably just waited until March 1 in hopes that the bug would fix itself, which thankfully it did
