July 29, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

Unlike previous Kindles, the $139 “Kindle Wi-Fi” will connect to the Internet using only Wi-Fi instead of a cellphone network. Amazon is also introducing a model to replace the Kindle 2, which it will sell for the same price as that model, $189. Both new Kindles are smaller and lighter, with higher contrast screens and crisper text.

HTC Replacing AMOLED Screens with Super LCD

Byline:? Ryan Whitwam ByLine link:? Ryan Whitwam Enhanced Teaser:? The rumors have been flying for a while now, but HTC has finally officially confirmed that they will be moving to Super LCD screen in some existing AMOLED-sporting phones. The two models listed are the HTC Desire, and the Google Nexus One. Oddly, the very similar HTC Droid Incredible was not mentioned. All these phones currently ship with 3.7-inch AMOLED touchscreens, but Samsung (the maker of the AMOLED panels) has been unable to keep up with demand.? AMOLED screens do not use a backlight, are thinner, and generally perform better than regular LCDs. HTC is claiming that the Super LCDs they will be using actually perform better than AMOLED, and have better battery life. This seems like a tall order to us

Byline:? Pulkit Chandna ByLine link:? opulent_rigs Enhanced Teaser:? Blink and you might miss a new stable Google Chrome release. This is because Google is accelerating the “pace at which Google Chrome stable releases become available.” The search engine giant plans to deliver a major version of its web browser every six weeks. Apparently, someone at Google proved beyond reasonable doubt that the engineering team was churning out new features at about the same rate as a Chinese toy factory produces toxic dolls with all its drudges. “We have new features coming out all the time and do not want users to have to wait months before they can use them. While pace is important to us, we are all committed to maintaining high quality releases — if a feature is not ready, it will not ship in a stable release,” wrote Anthony Laforge, Google Chrome Program Manager, in a blog post .
